Review

Notion is a widely used tool for tracking and organization, whether in a business/professional setting or for individual use. As the club will use Notion as it works on various projects, thinking about using this will be helpful.

Sign-up

For newer members who already are not signed up for the student version of Notion, please email Robert to receive your invite to the webd2 Notion. Please use your NWTC email address to signup to receive the student version which has more features than the individual free version.

Benefits and functionality

Notion has wide-ranging functionality: capturing notes, collecting resources and references, saving links and articles, tracking due dates, to-do lists and managing projects. As it is difficult to remember and track everything that one needs to, a tool such as this can be advantageous in reducing stress and increasing productivity. Robert mentioned the idea of “GTD” (getting things done) and mentioned the book “Getting Things Done” by David Allen. The key to getting the most out of using such a system is to pick one and be consistent in using it.

Tips and tricks

  • powerful internal search function (command+P or control+P)
  • move function (command+shft+P or control+shft+P)
  • / open menu
  • @ add a reminder or date
  • adding a web link will put an article in a page instead of going back to the web
  • set up triggers (actions) using automation
  • webhooks
  • Notion community provides numerous templates
  • web and app versions share information
  • possibility of interfacing Canvas with Notion

WEBD2 Kanban board

The club uses a Kanban board within Notion. Under Teamspaces in the club’s board are sections for “Help” and “Documentation” which have mini tutorials on some of the features. The club’s Kanban board looks like:

It is a series of columns containing cards (or pages) breaking projects down into steps and showing their progress. It allows everyone to see what is being worked on and its status.

Next Meeting

Next meeting is scheduled for October 8th, 2025 at 4PM.

Pedro will decide topic choice: website or podcast

As Notion is rolling out a new version, Notion 3, Robert may bring in some demos of new features which are including more AI.

Respectfully submitted by Paula R.
